If you associate the name Richard Childress and Talladega then you're a pretty good NASCAR fan. But, the connection goes much deeper than the race team known as RCR and it's success on the famed track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. According to the book - Talladega Superspeedway the famed team owner and former driver helped set the pace at 'Dega during it's earliest years. Here's five neat things about Richard Childress and Talladega Superspeedway according to the book Talladega Superspeedway. First, did you know that Childress drove the famed No. 3 car long before Dale Earnhardt took over as the driver? Secondly, did you know that Richard Childress finished in the number five spot as a driver during a Talladega race back in 1977? A couple of things about Richard Childress and Talladega that you may not have known.

According to RCR Richard Childress not only began his driving career at Talladega Superspeedway in 1969 but he also leads team owners for the most all-time victories at the storied Alabama race track with 12 wins. Dale Earnhardt visited Victory Lane nine times, while Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer swept the 2010 events at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Bowyer added to the Welcome, N.C.-based organization's total by claiming RCR's 100th Sprint Cup Series win in October 2011. In 150 starts, RCR also has four pole awards, 38 top-five, 61 top-10 finishes and has led 1,822 laps of competition.
