Bring on the MTSU Blue Raiders from Conference USA! The BYU Cougars are heading to the largest university in the state of Tennessee this weekend. And no, they're not taking on the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. BYU is heading to Murfreesboro to try and salvage a season against an MTSU Blue Raider team that seems to be on an upswing! That's right in case you didn't catch it... Middle Tennessee State University is the biggest university in the state including UT.
So what are the Blue Raiders going to try to do to help continue the BYU four game losing streak? According to Coach Rick Stockstill the key to the game is simple and that's to beat them! He knows that even though the Cougars have lost four straight that they are still a force to be dealt with. He pointed out the loss of their starting quarterback earlier in the season as being a low spot for BYU but they've been in some very close games.
"This is a really good team," Stockstill said. "They're really good on defense. Like I said they're struggling a little bit - you know - offensively right now just because of the quarterback change. It's going to be hard to run against these guys. They're big and physical but we need to establish the running game."
Stockstill pointed out that the home games have become a point of pride for the MTSU players and that they hope the hometown fans come out for the match-up. MTSU is riding a seven game winning record at Floyd Stadium. BYU has a well deserved reputation for traveling fans.
"The thing we always talk about is to take pride when you playing at home," Coach Stockstill said. "And our team, or teams, have done that. We don't play harder when we are at home, or on the road, we play just as hard on the road as we do at home! But we take pride in playing at home and protecting our turf."
