The ARCA Mobile 200 has announced that former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron will be the Grand Marshall for the race and that Megan Miller from American Idol will sing the National Anthem.
After 2 years of not being the Grand Marshall for the ARCA Mobile 200, Mobile's AJ McCarron will be the Grand Marshall for the 2014 ARCA Mobile 200. Wait, I was at the last race and McCarron gave the command to fire up the race cars on pit lane? Ahhh, enter the NCAA rule book. It turns out that McCarron, a mobile native and race face, simply attended the races as a fan and simply gave the command a few times when asked by friends.
So, the first two years of the ARCA Mobile 200, when AJ McCarron was playing college football for the University of Alabama, made sure that he didn't cross any NCAA boundaries. The hometown race fan would arrive unannounced like any other gear head at Mobile International Speedway, talk with friends and family, give the command to fire the engines and return to his seat in the grandstands to take in the race like any fan taking part in pre-race meet the driver opportunities.
According to Tommy Prater, who is the Mobile 200 promoter, the drop in visits were by McCarron were greatly appreciated and now it was time to officially ask the former 'Bama player to be the Grand Marshall. After all, for 2 years he's done a great job "not being the Grand Marshall."
With college in the year view mirror and unfettered by the NCAA restrictions Mobile's McCarron is the Grand Marshall of the ARCA Mobile 200.
Known nationally as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play college football, McCarron can be spotted regularly at Mobile International Speedway on any given Saturday night.
"AJ is coming to the ARCA Mobile 200 not because we asked him but because he and his entire family are huge race fans. They would be here whether AJ was the Grand Marshall or a spectator," ARCA Mobile 200 promoter Tommy Praytor said. "For racing, for Mobile, for our fans having AJ wanting to be a part of our biggest race is absolutely awesome!"
Megan Miller Sings National Anthem
American Idol's Megan Miller will perform the National Anthem at the ARCA Mobile 200 plus she and her band will highlight the Home Mortgage of America Green Flag Party at Grand Central on Thursday night.
"I've had a chance to perform on some pretty big stages but the ARCA Mobile 200 will definitely be the fastest," offered Miller. "American Idol has really given me a great platform to perform and I hope we can bring a little of the Idol magic to Mobile."
Miller has competed twice in the star studded Fox American Idol and Series and has just wrapped the 2013 series. In addition to competing in American Idol, Miller has been a 5 time Miss America talent preliminary winner and runner up to Miss Louisiana.
"We've been very fortunate with our relationship with Venturini Motorsports to attract top talent to perform at the ARCA Mobile 200, Megan continues in that grand tradition," said ARCA Mobile 200 promoter Tommy Praytor. "I'm really looking forward to her and the Megan Miller band rocking the house at the Home Mortgage of America Green Flag Party."
