Dale Earnhardt Jr won the Pocono 400, his first win at the track, and his second win of the season. Dale Jr is now locked into the Chase under the new NASCAR format that places more of an emphasis on winning than on protecting points as in seasons past. The driver passed Brad Keselowski as Keselowski had to try and knock garbage off his grill to keep his engine from blowing by tucking in behind the slower car of Danica Patrick.
"(Keselowski) had me beat, I couldn't get to him (before his engine overheated)," Earnhardt said. "It's hard to pass here. But I've lost some in some strange ways, so it feels good to win one like that. We all have to thank our team when we win, but when I talk about my team, I really mean it."
