The ARCA Racing Series has announced that driver Shannon
McIntosh will be celebrating her birthday in a fun manner this year. The driver
has teamed up with Cunningham Motorsports (CMS) and will drive in the SCOTT Get
Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR) on
McIntosh will hit the LOR short track one day after her 25
birthday For Shannon McIntosh, there's nothing quite like a good old-fashioned
ARCA short-track rock 'em, sock 'em birthday bash at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR).
The driver says the opportunity is one that she has been working hard to land.
"This is a huge opportunity. To have Kerry Scherer and
Briggs Cunningham (Cunningham Motorsports co-owners) believe in me enough to
provide this opportunity...it's hard to put into words how grateful I am,"
McIntosh said. "That's number one. Secondly, this is a fulltime thing for
me. I'm all in; this is everything to me. I've been working fulltime on the
marketing and sponsorship side of things to keep my career on track. I do all
of it myself, so I'm constantly on the phone and emailing trying to make things
happen. We have some exciting news we're going to be sharing, so this is all
good.. When I got the call from Kerry, I was so surprised."
A 100-lap ARCA CRA Super Series race will kick of the big
night of stock car racing, culminating with the ARCA Racing Series SCOTT Get
Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care under the lights. NASCAR/ARCA
veteran Ken Schrader, 10-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel, ARCA
point leader Grant Enfinger and red-hot Mason Mitchell highlight the ARCA
Racing Series entries while NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Ragan is
entered in the ARCA CRA Super Series event.
McIntosh, originally from Miamisburg, Ohio, now makes her
home in St. Petersburg, Fla.; however, she'd like to relocate closer to the
action. She hopes to make her ARCA Racing experience a fulltime gig for more
races this season as well as running the full schedule in 2015.
"I really want to get back to Charlotte (N.C.) to be in
that atmosphere...around all the people who know and understand racing,"
McIntosh Said. "Right now, I want to get in as many races as I can, but we
all know that plans can fall apart, so you have to keep working hard to make it
happen. I'd love to get a full (ARCA) season in next year. My goal is to get to
NASCAR, but I also know that's a step-by-step process. I just need to keep
moving up through the ranks."
The ARCA race at LOR marks her series debut but she already has
some racing experience at LOR in the U.S. F2000 Series as well as some testing
with Bob East back in 2010. McIntosh has also tested with Cunningham
Motorsports at Daytona, Motor Mile Speedway and Mobile.
