NASCAR Hits the Dirt at Eldora with Slight Changes

NASCAR is heading back to the dirt track surface of Eldora Speedway with the Camping World Truck Series. The race, known as the MudSummer Classic, will be a mid-week event and an instant classic! Thankfully the officials of NASCAR took note of the success that the ARCA Racing Series enjoys with fans and drivers when that series hits dirt tracks a couple of times a year.

Here are some of the slight changes set in place for this years event that NASCAR has put in place.

  •  Pit stops during competition cautions are now optional, whereas they were mandatory in last year's inaugural event.
  • Each qualifying race will now be 10 laps each. Last year, each race was eight laps.
  • A random draw will determine qualifying order. Last year, practice speeds dictated the qualifying order.
  • Owner points to be awarded to the top five team owners whose trucks do not transfer to the main feature. Last season, teams that did not advance to the main feature did not earn owner points.
