The caption says it all. When I logged into the NASCAR media site this morning the first thing I noticed was a great series of pictures of Jeff Gordon celebrating his Brickyard 400 win with his family and team. It says a lot about how Gordon has continued to be a great driver over the years and how he also become a veteran leader of the sport! Here's the official caption from NASCAR Media.
"Jeff Gordon, driver of the #24 Axalta Chevrolet, center, celebrates with team owner Rick Hendrick, second left, daughter, Ella Sophia, wife, Ingrid Vandebosch, and son Leo Benjamin on the yard of bricks after winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crown Royal Presents The John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 27, 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana."
Gordon rocked the Brickyard 400 this weekend by grabbing the lead from Kasey Kahne with only a few laps to go. What better way to cap off a day that's been officially named in your honor? Yep, Sunday was officially Jeff Gordon Day and the veteran driver took advantage of it!
It was Gordon's 5th win at the Brickyard, his 90th of his career, and this time he got to kiss the famed bricks at Indy with his kids! Talk about a cool day for the NASCAR Sprint Cups Series points leader!
"It's such a big place and such an important victory and a crucial moment in the season and the championship, and those emotions take over," Gordon said. "I have my kids here. There's nothing better, especially at one of the biggest races, to have your family here. ... This one is for all those fans throughout the years and all weekend long. They're saying, 'We believe you can get number five.' We got number five -- yes!"
With the win, the seconds of the season for Gordon, he's more than secured a place in the Chase. In fact - I think he's proven that he's the driver to beat for the rest of the season!
