Tony Stewart Skips Watkins Glen Releases Statement

Watkins Glen is under the Green flag and Tony Stewart is not behind the wheel of his No. 14 car for Stewart Hass Racing. After an incident during a sprint car race last night in which Stewart's car struck and killed another driver the decision was made to put Regan Smith in as a substitute driver. Since then Stewart has released a statement.

"There aren't words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr. It's a very emotional time for all involved, and it is the reason I've decided not to participate in today's race at Watkins Glen. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy."

Following the horrible turn of events last night indications were that Stewart would drive during today's Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. During the morning briefings and PR releases it was announced that Stewart would in fact sit this one out. On Sunday afternoon Greg Zipadelli indicated that it would be "business as usual" but as the day went on said that he and the entire team back Stewart in his decision to skip the race.
